Hi, I’m Yari
My full name is Yaritsa Arenas and I’m a graphic and web designer based in New York. I have a full time job working for an agency in Manhattan, but I enjoy having my own business where I can explore new areas of design not covered in my day job. It allows me to expand my portfolio and work on projects that may not have been worked on in a larger agency.
I started this site (originally PixieGirl Designs) in 2004 as a visual portfolio of projects I worked on in college. Slowly, I started adding projects worked on for friends or for fun and eventually taking on client work.
Work Bio
I earned my BFA from the Long Island University in 2001, receiving the Award of Excellence in Digital Arts & Design. Since then, I’ve acquired 10 years of creative experience in packaging design, brand identity and print. I am experienced working in a fast-paced environment, have a strong deadline-friendly work ethic and coordinate large production tasks. I have been fortunate enough to work with a wide variety of clients who have an equally wide range of needs. My work has been recognized with such awards as Creativity Award of Distinction, The Communicator, American Graphic Design Awards and American Packaging Design Awards.
Background & Interests
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, but I have an unhealthy obsession with France and India… I love the French language (though I’m still struggling to learn it) and I’m just intrigued by the Indian culture and food.
Growing up, I always loved making things. From Barbie-sized cakes created out of soda bottle caps and paint, to miniature houses out of shoe boxes. I always had a little composition notebook filled with sketches and in High School went through a fashion design phase. In college, however, is where I finally was able to unite my passion for art and love of computers.
Since then, I’ve been a graphic and web designer, but if you ask nicely, I’ll consider designing your next outfit!
