What does your financial goal really mean to you?

I've been meaning to write on this for a while, but I'd stopped myself not because I don't think money goals are important, but because there are already so many people talking about it.

I didn't want to come here with a quick formula on yearly revenue or telling you to raise your rates or even assume what your monthly goals should be. But given that $10K months are the talk of the town these days, let me then ask you this...

What does a $10K month actually mean to you? Beyond just a number that everyone seems to be striving for these days.

I hope you're not hearing me say that there's anything wrong with aiming for a $10K month. I just want invite you to really feel into what this amount actually allows you to do, be and have.

I listen to a fair amount of YNAB (You Need a Budget) videos because I like their approach to money management and one of their rules is to give every dollar a job. So I'm not randomly saving $XXX just in case. I'm saving it towards a trip, towards taking a month off every summer, towards a down payment for a house... you get the idea.

The reason I find this helpful is because it gives me a stronger "why." I know, I know, I have a love-hate relationship with "your why" because I feel it is at times overused. I prefer to think of it as my Big (Brand) Vision, but you know... tomayto, tomahto.

Think about it though. If the goal is $10K, then you're working towards a number. A status symbol potentially. Bragging rights for some...

But if you're working toward a goal or a lifestyle (whether that looks like $5K or $50K+ months), then it's more intentional. It's your own version of success. What is in alignment with your big vision and your goals.

If a $10K month allows you to take a yearly sabbatical, doesn't that sound much more exciting than just hustling for a random number? If it allows you to live in your favorite neighborhood, make space for pro-bono or community initiatives, get monthly massages or help a family member with care, wouldn't you be more motivated?

So yes, let's set those financial goals, let's reach for big things. But let's root it in a Big Vision that you're excited about! And I would love to witness your own vision, if you're open to share it with me 😊
