Is providing a "high-quality offer" enough?

A lot of us pride ourselves in providing great quality services and products. At least, if you're here, I think you do as well.

Which is definitely something to always strive for, this is not going to be me telling you to start skimping in any way. (Optimize? Always! Cut corners? Never! 😉)

But is "great quality" or "high-quality" or even "better quality than..." enough?

I'm going to say no—especially if you're offering a premium service or product. And here's why...

Someone who's willing to spend on a high-ticket offer is already at minimum expecting great quality ✨

Think about your last big purchase. When you were doing your due diligence in finding where you wanted to invest your hard earned money, your entire shortlist was comprised of high-quality options, right?

So if great quality isn't enough, what do you need instead (or rather, in addition to) to stand apart from your competition?

You need to identify your positioning (the space you take up in your industry) and your vibe fit (your brand's personality + your audience's desired experience) ✨

Your positioning will give your audience (and you!) a point of distinction. This is where you get clear on what problem you solve, who you solve it for and what solution you're promising them. We want to know what the value is that someone would gain from your offer (that they couldn't easily get elsewhere).

Your vibe fit helps you create a memorable experience that will leave your clients feeling great about their investment. Your personality and approach may not be for everyone and that's actually a good thing!

  • If you like quick-turnaround projects, you don't want to attract people who are slow to make decisions

  • If you tend to speak about controversial topics, you're definitely going to repel those who are easily offended

  • If your industry's status quo is one you don't agree with, you want to be able to speak to those who also feel like going against the grain

Here's an example... I recently watched a video about Starbucks and how it changed the game as far as coffee shops go (tho I'm starting to wonder if I dreamt this, I was searching for it in my YT history to share it, but I couldn't find it 😅).

The gist of it had to do with Starbucks creating a third place for its customers. It became a space where you could come in with your laptop and work in a comfy, cozy environment away from your home. This wasn't commonplace back then, though these days you can find places that have aimed to create a similar vibe.

Sure, Starbucks offered quality coffee—let's just agree on that for the sake of this example, I'm more of a tea person myself so I can't vouch one way or another 😉—but so did many other shops. Where they stood out, was in having a vibe fit that other places did not offer. They positioned themselves to attract a specific type of customer and cater to their specific needs (decent wi-fi, lots of outlets, a table to work on, etc).

At least it used to... I won't get into how their newer digital offers have started to backtrack what they once created. Although I will note that steering away from their original purpose & vision is what caused them to stray. But I digress...

So, my love, if you can get a quality product from any of the options on your shortlist, what are you looking for in making your final choice?

And by that same logic, ✨ if your clients have you on their shortlist of high-quality options... what will make you stand out in their minds?

Once you can answer that, you'll be able to craft a message that connects with your audience on a deeper level and helps them see you as their best solution!

Ps. Admittedly there are a few (and far between) examples where the entire industry or competitor set offers poor quality and in that case, yes, a higher quality offer may be enough. But these days, that's rare, especially with premium offers.
